Saving the Monarchs!

Hey Monarchs!
Over the last decade, the monarch population has declined by an alarming 97% due to habitat loss. Monarch caterpillars feed only on milkweed, and fields where this native plant once grew are being lost to development and agricultural practices. You can help by planting milkweed seeds! - See more at:
Check out this link and they'll send some milkweed seeds that you can plant!

Successful Open Gym!

Open gym yesterday was a huge success!  We had 28 gymnasts of all levels come to practice.  There were class kids, team girls, and friends of people in the program.  Everyone had lots of fun!  It was a great time to perfect old skills and try new skills.  We will be having more open gyms coming up, so stay tuned!  Hope to see you there!

The season is starting!

It seems like everyone is adjusting to the fall schedule.  The girls have definitely been a little more crazy in the gym now that they are sitting at school all day;)  With everything else that is going on, competition season is right around the corner!  The critique clinic is already NEXT weekend!  I know some of the girls aren't feeling 100% prepared at this point, but that is okay.  We will continue working skills and routines to have them ready come time for our first meet.  Especially now that school is in, it is really important that they are getting enough sleep and properly fueling their bodies so that they can get the most out of every practice.  Make sure you are keeping up with all the latest greatest happening in and out of the gym!

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!

This past Friday, we completed the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!  We were nominated by Andrew Gallo and we challenge the PCY Tigersharks and the Monarch Parent Board!  Good Luck!  If you would like to make a donation to ALS, visit http://www.alsa.org/about-als/what-is-als.html

Thanks!

We've been challenged!- TOMORROW!

Monarchs,
Andrew (Kristin's husband) challenged the entire team to the ALS Ice Bucket challenge, so we accepted!  I've attached the video if you want to check it out.  We are nominating our very own parent board (yes, all of you!), the PCY Tigersharks, and Ken Anstaett!
In short, ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord and currently does not have a cure.  The Ice Bucket challenge was created in order to raise awareness/donations for the disease.  If you would like to make a donation, you can visit the ALS website:
http://www.alsa.org/fight-als/ice-bucket-challenge.html

We will being doing the ice bucket challenge tomorrow IN BETWEEN PRACTICES (about 5:45pm) back behind the volleyball courts.  Parents are more than welcome to come watch!
  • If your gymnast practices in the first group- 3's and 4's, make sure they bring an extra change of clothes (unless you don't mind taking them home wet;)
  • If your gymnast practices in the second group- don't show up in your leotard. Bring a leotard to change into (since we will be doing the challenge after warm-up and stretching- so make sure you wear athletic clothing for the beginning of practice)
Thanks!

Pool Party and Little/Big sister pairings

The pool party this past Saturday was a ton of fun!  With 56 girls on the team and multiple practice times, it is good to give everyone a chance to know each other a little better.  In order to help keep all of the girls connected we also gave each of the girls a big sister/little sister pairing. The goal is that they will grow a special bond with their big/little so they can ask them questions/advice on things in and out of the gym, make good luck cards, and encourage each other.  Ask them questions.  Find out what their favorite color, food, or activity outside of gymnastics is.  Below are the pairings in case you weren't at the pool party or forgot who your big/little was.  Make sure to say hi to them at practice even if you aren't in the same practice group!

Summer Reminders

So far the summer schedule has been really successful!  Practices have been going well and the exhibition was a hit!

Please take note of some reminders below:

  • Please make sure your gymnast is bringing a lock to practice every day.  We do not have room for all of their bags in the gym and there is the potential that their stuff will not still be there if they do not have a lock on their locker.
  • There is NO PRACTICE June 30th (Monday)- July 5 (Saturday).  Enjoy the break and wish the Nationals girls good luck as they will be competing in Tampa that week!
  • For returning Monarchs, we are doing assessments in the gym with the requirements to move up to the next level.  If you or your gymnasts wants to know where they stand or what we are looking for, feel free to set up a meeting with their coach for you and your gymnast. (E-mails below)
  • Please continue to e-mail Kristin and your gymnasts main coach with any absences
  • Thank you to Gwen for her $25.00 donation to the team

Banquet Slideshow Pictures- UPDATE

We've been having some issues with dropbox so we're not going to be able to use it to collect pictures for the banquet, but we still need pictures!  You can either e-mail them to me (pcygymnast@gmail.com) or bring them in on a CD or flashdrive and I'll get them back to you.  I can give you a CD to put them on if you need one.  Just let me know:)  You can also add them to the Monarchs facebook group and I can get them from there

So far I've only received pictures from one family.  I know there are more out there!

  • The fundraiser will begin April 1, 2014 and go on for 30 days
  • Anyone who purchases the car washes must use the website (https://mikescarwash.com/PowellCrosleyYMCAMonarchs)- We will not get any of the profits if they do not use this website!

*As of right now, there is no way to distinguish who sells what because everything is done online.  The best way to keep track right now whoever you advertise to to buy car washes, that in their name spot, they add the gymnasts last name they are representing
